What Are We To Make Of Fucking Texas Defying SCOTUS?

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

The thing about what’s going on with Texas defying SCOTUS is it really could go either way at the moment. This could be just low level political crisis that kind of lingers, but ultimately goes nowhere — or it could be the precursor to something akin to a Second American Civil War.

I honestly just don’t know. Things could escalate any number of different ways. If Biden feels too much political pressure and feels forced to Federalize the Texas National Guard, then every good olde boy goober with an AR-15 might swarm the area in quest and we end up with Insurrection Part Duh.

Or something, something bad like that.

At the moment, I just can’t game out which direction things will go. On a basic rhetorical basis, at least, the United States is primed and ready for a secession crisis that might be sparked by something EXTREMELY DUMB like this. And, yet, I think we need the passions of the 2024 presidential silly season to be in full force for something as dire as that to happen.

My gut tells me this is a lulz — at least in the near term. Texas ding-dongs get to beat their chest about how they’re “holding the line” while Biden carefully eyes the situation as we enter the full brunt of 2024 electioneering.

I’m At A Loss As To How To Wrap Up The Problem With The Texas National Guard

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

The simple solution to the growing political and legal crisis in regards to the Texas National Guard ignoring the will of the Federal government at the border is the simply nationalize it.

And, yet, there are some pretty big political considerations to take into account. It’s at least possible that if Biden did the obvious, that that will only pour gasoline on the situation and make a bunch of goons with AR-15s to come out of the woodwork and we have Insurrection 2.0 on our hands.

But maybe I’m overthinking things. I think either Biden just ignores what’s going on or he nationalizes the Texas National Guard. Or, it’s possible that this is just something we punt down the road until after the coming 2024 President Silly Season is sorted out one way or another.

It’s all very curious. But, just from my discussions on Twitter about this situation, it definitely seems as though it’s yet ANOTHER issue that is seen through the lens of our hyper partisan world and nothing gets done because each side so so busy scoring points to actually try to fix the problem at hand.

Anocracy In America

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

It definitely seems as though the United States has hit a political iceberg and it well on its way to sinking into the icy seas of fascism. But, at the same time, I just don’t know.

It could go either way.

It could be that some sort of off ramp happens because of an unexpected black swan event and America will just muddle through and all my dystopian hellscape scenarios will be seen as laughable. But there is a greater-than-zero chance that This Is It.

It could be that we’re very, very fucked and late 2024, early 2025 will see some unpreceded things happen one way or another. The spectrum ranges from civil war because Trump loses the 2024 president election to Trump winning in 2025, and being such an idiotic tyrannical madman in 2025 that he is somehow deposed and when that happens…there is a civil war.

But lulz, who knows.

I think there remains a really good chance that everything is going to work out fine. I definitely hope that is going to happen.

But things are still too far out at the moment. I can’t make any sort of prediction for sure one way or another. It could be that WW3 breaks out, or it could be that something akin to a civil war breaks out because of what’s going on at the Texas border.

Only time will tell.

Time To Nationalize The Texas National Guard

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

President Biden needs to nip this particular issue in the bud and nationalize the Texas National Guard. That would eliminate Texas’ ability to define SCOTUS and also kind of smoke out how serious Texas is at the moment about being dickheads to the Federal government.

The longer this festers, the worst it’s going to get.

There is a risk, of course, that America is so fucked that if Biden does national the Texas National Guard, that that, unto itself, will only cause the crisis to grow more severe because self-proclaimed “militias” will swarm to the site and then, lulz, we have another insurrection.

Give All The Russian Spies Who May Read This Blog, I Find Any Serious Homegrown ‘Secession’ Talk Dubious

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

I don’t KNOW that Russian — and Chinese — spies read this blog, but sometimes, some of the things I see in my Webstats make me scratch my head. Anyway, I suspect much of the “Texit” talk on social media at the moment is just talk on the part of Russian paid trolls.

We aren’t near the tipping point that will happen either in late 2024 when Trump loses or at some point after January 2025 if Trump wins and is deposed for being a bonkers MAGA tyrant.

Otherwise, I think we can just cool it with any sort of secession talk on the part of Texas — or anyone else.

How Seriously Should We Take ‘Texit?’

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

While we’re slowly reaching a tipping point whereby Texas may be the first to leave the Union, I have serious doubts about it happening, like, NOW.

So, as such, the timing isn’t right for Texit. We need the passions of the 2024 election to enter the “Silly Season” before such things might become a reality. At the moment, all this Texit talk is just that — talk.

Get back to me when there is suddenly a man rush between Texas and South Carolina to see which one can hold the first Secession Convention. If such a thing happens, it will either be in late 2024 after Trump loses, or sometime in 2025 – 2026 should Tyrant Red King Trump be deposed somehow.

The Fate Of Texas During A Second American Civil War

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

I only write this because I’m aware of how many private mercenaries and thrill seekers there are in the Lone Star State. Anyway, if there was a civil war like I fear might happen in the United States between now and January 2025, what happens to Texas?

Texas is very complicated because what should be happening — the state gradually becoming a safe Blue state — is being stymied by its autocratic state government. As such, there is already a real disconnect between the will of the people and how the state is actually governed.

But the key thing we have to remember is if there was a 2ACW that was started by Red States, rather than Blue States, then Texas might even be the first state to call a Secessionist Convention.

Two other things to consider. First, Texas would likely implode into intra-state civil war. There would be a pitched battle to for control of the state and I could see future school children learning all about The Battle of Austin as Reds try to take that dollop of Blue.

Also, the state would be the front line if Blue forces from California swooped across the country in an effort to re-unite the nation. I have my doubts that this latter thing would happen. I say this because the war aims of Blues might be simply to have a clean national divorce.

But Texas is so big and so Purple that I think if there was a civil war — no matter which side started it — it would be a complete shitshow. A catastrophe. Let’s not have one, shall we?

Trump Is Definitely Fucking With Texas

by Ender

For all their talk about “don’t mess with Texas,” it sure looks like Texas Republicans are letting Trump grab them by the pussy. Hell, maybe even do some butt stuff before it’s over with.

I once read a great book about how Huey Long (who was a far better autocrat than Trump has ever been) had near-dictatorial control over the politics of Louisiana during the Great Depression. In modern day Texas, it seems when Trump says “jump,” Texas Republicans are already jumping like they’re Trump’s bitch.

Here’s what I believe is going on — Texas has all the problems of the United States in micro. Texas is shifting blue because of changes in demographics and this is causing a great deal of existential insecurity on the part of Texas Republicans. In short — there is no such thing as a moderate Texas Republican now. The entire Texas Republican Party, on a systemic basis, has radicalized to the point that Trump has absolute power over them.

This is a prime example of how we need to start doing triage. Just write Texas off on a political level. There are a number of states across the Union that we just have to write off in the context of, well, politics. Texas is the biggest of them because we’ve reached an autocratic critical mass. Going into whatever happens in January 2025 — Texas is a lost cause.

It’s because of such bullshit that I think our best course of action is “strategic retreat” for the time being. Instead of wasting time, energy and cash attempting to do traditional politics with Republicans that are hell bent on establishing an autocratic white Christian ethno state, pull back and start to figure out long-term goals.

Chief among them, sad to say, would be: what should Blue State civil war war aims be? At this point that really sounds like some of the “hysterical doom shit” that I’ve been accused of peddling by “Mueller, She Wrote,” but I honestly don’t know what else to tell you.

The fact that ding-dong Trump has absolute political control over the Great State of Texas is a “not great, Bob” type of realization. We have to stop deluding ourselves as to what is about to happen. Steve Bannon is actively working to serve as “doula” to American tyranny and we’re letting him pull it off in broad daylight.

So — we pull back, use these last few years of peace and quiet to figure out our strengths. I hate to talk like this because, lulz, I sound like Steve Bannon. Maybe he can adopt me like Bill the Butcher.

All Eyes On Texas & Matthew McConaughey

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

First, let me say that I’m not from Texas and don’t know anything about its internal politics. But I do know, on a macro level, that it definitely looks as though there will never be another center-Left state-wide office holder there unless it’s part of a Second Reconstruction in a post-Second American Civil War won by Blue States.

By All-Pro Reels from District of Columbia, USA – Flickr, CC BY-SA 2.0,

But there is at least one wild card at the moment, and that’s Matthew McConaughey. He sort of embodies the spirit of modern Texas (IMHO) and it’s easy to see him becoming governor for the same reasons that Trump became POTUS — everyone imbued him with their hopes and fears, not really knowing anything about him.

And, if McConaughey can just prove himself capable of Not Being Trump in Texas, he will be the de facto shadow Democratic candidate for 2024. Now, things would get really weird if he rans a Republican. But, I find that unlikely because I would be flabbergasted if he was willing to pander to the MAGA New Right base that much.

I don’t think we’re prepared for how much POTUS talk would swirl around McConaughey if he ran and won in Texas. It would be very, very intense. He’s the perfect post-Obama, post-Trump post-Rona candidate. But he has to decide to run and he has to win.

And, like I said, even if he won, the case could be made that Republicans would find out some way, anyway to nullify his win, just like they’re probably going to do in January 2025 with any Biden win nationally.

But it will be interesting, no matter what.

I just don’t see Beto O’Rourke ever having a shot at winning in Texas. He’s always going to be the guy who Should Win, not the guy who Will Win.

Texas Will Only Go Blue As Part of a Second Reconstruction After Blue States Win The Second American Civil War

by Ender

There’s a lot of hype within the center-Left echo chamber about how Texas is “one day” going to swing Blue because of macro economic trends. All things being equal, if we were still a functioning liberal democracy — and if Texas Republicans were collectively lobotomized — this would be true.

But we’re not a functioning democracy and Texas Republicans know damn well they’re on the cusp of losing power if people vote so — they don’t want people to vote.

Texas Republicans are growing more and more autocratic in leaps and bounds to the point that I believe the only way they will ever allow Texas to turn Blue is if they’ve been destroyed and no longer have the ability to do anything about it. In other words, only after a Second American Civil War has destroyed the state of Texas as we know it and it’s being Reconstructed afterwards will Texas ever be allowed to vote for a Democratic president.

A Blue Texas would doom Republican hopes for the presidency to such an extent that not even Florida being a safe Red state now could help the situation. Add to this how fucking hysterical and anti-democratic Texas Republicans are on an systemic, existential basis and there is absolutely no fucking way they will ever allow the state to shift Blue peacefully.

The absolute white hot rage that Texas Republicans have about the mere notion of the state turning Blue is pretty much what’s going on in general with the national Republican Party. It is very tragic, but it’s clear to me now that only as the by product of a tragic, avoidable civil war will the United States ever be a functioning liberal democracy again. It’s possible that the U.S. Military might step in to fix all the problems necessary to get us back on the democratic track, but unlikely.

So you can add an autocratic Texas to the long list of macro trends that indicate we’re either going to slip peacefully into the autocratic rule of a white Christian ethno state — or we’re going to have a fucking civil war.

I have no idea what is going to happen at this point.
