My Novel’s Transition From Private To Public Beta Has Begun

Every conversation I have with people these days about the status of my novel reminds me that no one gives a shit about any of this but me. I have no support from anyone close to me. Though I will admit that I do have a least rabid fan who wants to read the Public Beta for some inexplicable reason — but I don’t really know them, no matter how pleased I am that they care.

Anyway.

The point is — I’m now going to sit down and start to read the entirety of the Private Beta, rewriting things as necessary as I do so. I’m really, really pleased with the first chapter. It really feels like a professional novel.

At least the first chapter does. I have over 20 more chapters to work on.

But I do think that I have a pretty good shot of wrapping the transition to Pubic Beta up no later than July 4th.

Then…THEN…things get interesting because I’m going to have to start being OTHER people’s Beta reader so they’ll hopefully read MY beta draft.

As I approach this new stage, I find myself growing more and more unnerved about the fact that I’ve done all of this largely in a vacuum and it’s going to be interesting to see what the reaction of other people to my baby will be. The initial reaction to my “teaser” that I’ve given people was positive.

But, I fully expect at least one beta reader to tell me I’ve done it all wrong and I need to start from scratch or, even more unnerving, they may question why I even wrote a novel to begin with.

Ugh.

And, yet, that is bound to happen if you put yourself out there.
