A Totally Uninformed Hot Take On Catlin Clark

I don’t know anything about sports — at all — but the rise of Catlin Clark is an actual fun-interesting thing that even someone such as myself can sit back and mull over. There are a number of interesting angles to contemplate.

One is, there isn’t the obvious Blue – Red divide issue to complicate things. She’s not transgender, she’s just a reasonably attractive — and tall! — talented young woman who is doing really well in her personal passion. So, it’s something that crosses the Blue -Red hyperpolarization that we currently experience. It’s something we can all talk about without worrying about if this or that group is going to get really upset because of microaggressions or whatever. It’s just a sports story.

And, yet, of course, there is the old fashion story of race. The fact that LSU’s team was predominantly black while Iowa’s was predominantly white definitely gave a what happened between the two teams a tinge of the Blue – Red divide. But it was all subtext, at least from what I can tell from Twitter.

Then there is the very strange issue of how the refs seemed to have it out for Iowa. Very curious. It almost makes you wonder if they were trying to fix the game or something.
