Talk About Projection

Fox News is at it again. They definitely seem to want to spark a civil war for no other reasons than “vibes.” They — and the rest of the MAGA Right — spend all their fucking time blathering about how Blues are going to “force” them into a civil war and then they come out with bullshit like this.

Ugh.

I don’t know what to tell you. It definitely seems as though we’re careening towards a very dark future in late 2024, early 2025. The seeds are being sown for a civil war or revolution at some point within the next 18 months or so. I definitely don’t want any such thing to happen, but we have to accept that it’s very possible.

Get ready.

Contemplating Kara Swisher’s Theory That Elon Musk Is Turning Twitter Into The ‘New’ Fox News

Fox News is a national embarrassment, but maybe not in the way you think. The embarrassment is not it is force feeding Americans seditious propaganda, it’s that A LOT of Americans want that agenda. They are wilful in their consumption of hate.

So, if it wasn’t Fox News doing it, someone else would be doing the exact same thing — if not worse.

Which leads us to Kara Swisher’s idea that maybe Elon Musk is maybe trying to somehow turn Twitter into a new and improved MAGA Nazi media outlet. I suppose this is possible, but I think the thing we would have to keep an eye out for is Musk assembling some sort of editorial staff.

If he did that then, yeah, Ms. Swisher is probably right. But given how fucking old most of the people who watch Fox News are, I don’t think there would be a one-to-one replacement. The new “Red Pilled” Twitter might be something for younger people, but even if somehow Fox News went under the slack would be picked up by OANN and Newsmax, not Twitter.

Who knows. I think the Ms. Swisher’s idea has come credibility, but only time will tell how much.

FOX News: We Have Seen The Enemy & They Are Us

The thing about how fucked up FOX News is — we really only have ourselves to blame. There’s a market for batshit Right wing propaganda and so it exists. If they weren’t making money, they wouldn’t exist. We live in a free society with free speech and a market-based economy: it’s not really FOX News’ fault.

In fact, my case is strengthened by the growing popularity of OANN and NewsMax. A huge swath of the viewing audience wants lies. Negative polarization is so intense now in the United States that if you’re not lying to a certain group of people then they will find someone who will lie to them.

That’s why media outlet that purports to be “objective” about the news — like WGN’s NewsNation — leave me very weary. How can you legitimately tell news straight down the middle when a huge group of people willfully want to believe the sky is green. If you don’t hold that lie up as equal to the sky being blue, then they think you’re just another liberal media outlet.

Anyway, the point is conservatives are growing every-more willfully detached from reality and they wrap themselves in lies to the point that their is no longer any shared reality.

And that, my gentle reader, is how we’re going to end up with an autocracy. Or a civil war. Take your pick. The United States is so politically unstable at the moment that this is a situation that can’t continue indefinitely. At some point, we’re either going to become consumed by the lie or we’re going to end it.

Fox News & Our Impending Existential Choice of Autocracy, Military Junta or Civil War

by Ender

One of the talking points you find within the center-Left Twitter echo chamber is how damaging FOX News is. I agree with this talking point, and, yet I feel it needs to be put in context.

Because of the nature of our society and government — we are supposed to be a liberal democracy, you know — FOX News exists because there’s an audience. In fact, what’s worse, the audience that it makes so much money scaring is growing more and more interested in watching North Korean-style propaganda like OANN and NewsMax that has the barest connection to reality.

That’s what they want, they want to be lied to. Or, put another way, for them the lie is the truth.

And, so, if FOX News had a come-to-Jesus moment and started acting more like CNN, it would lose all its viewers to OANN and NewsMax. How do you fix THAT problem?

FOX News is a symptom of one of a number of macro trends that are lurching us down the inevitable path of the existential choice of autocracy, military junta or civil war. All the conditions are there, it’s just a matter of what the catalyst will be.

But it will happen — something’s gotta give.

At the moment, a lot of people who poo-poo my “doom shit” do so because they simply can’t process, can’t imagine, the idea that the United States, the most powerful country in the world, could face the type of existential choice I keep ranting about.

In short, they have no vision.

And, yet, I have to admit that I can’t predict the future. There is no reveled truth. I could be wrong. Or, more accurately, when we do drift peacefully into autocracy the people who laugh at me won’t even realize what’s happened because their, specific life, hasn’t change all that much for the time being.

When it does, they’ll get upset in private and never, ever admit that I was right all along.
