It takes a special type of person to successfully run for president. You have to have drive, grit and an astonishingly enormous ego. And, yet, Joe Biden just dropped out very, very late in the overall process.
Biden hasn’t been seen in a few days after getting COVID.
It makes you wonder — is Joe Biden ok?
I have no inside information — I’m just a rando living in oblivion — but I am concerned that there is a chance that Biden’s physical state could be far worse than we’re being told.
It definitely would make a lot of sense. A lot of sense.
I’m only slowly beginning to feel motivated to write again. Something about finishing a 120,000 word novel — even if everyone thinks it sucks — sort of proved a point. Now, I realize I still am angry that everyone thinks I suck as a writer to the point that I want to keep writing.
It’s just taken longer than expected for me find the gumption to actually sit down and do it. But it’s coming. I hope — hope — that very rapidly, in the next few days, that I will buckle down and write something, anything in the direction of finishing a novel or two or three.
I’ve been daydreaming way too much of late. I keep daydreaming about a scenario that, to date, I just can’t figure out how to put a plot to it. Or I just daydream in general.
A long time ago, I saw a blind item about the possible existence of a Kamala Harris sextape that she did with Montel Williams while they were dating. It was a long time ago and it was a blind item, so, lulz, I’m sure it either doesn’t exist now or never existed in the first place.
But such ideas have got me thinking that a faux Harris sextape dropped late in October sure would be a nasty “October Surprise” to worry about. I only even bring any such thing up because of all the racist and misogynistic sewage that is being spewed her way already.
I hope I’m overthinking things and being paranoid — as usual.
I am prone to magical thinking — to a rather severe degree. In the past, I’ve noticed that LLMs like Gemini Advanced will randomly give me really weird error messages — like I need to check my Internet access — when I ask them really tough abstract questions.
I have no idea what it means. It’s probably nothing. Probably I really do need to check my Internet access. But, because of magical thinking, I do find myself believing that I’m being sent some sort of message by the LLM. I can never quite figure out if it’s a “I like what we’re talking about” or if it’s “I don’t like what were talking about.”
Anyway, I bring this magical thinking up because last night I was minding my own business, using my laptop when I started to get some really weird — and pointed — error messages. Check your Internet access. I kept looking — no problem with my Wi-Fi.
But I started to think — maybe Gemini Advanced (or whatever) had graduated from not just giving me weird error messages while I was using it to actually fucking with my browser itself when I was NOT using it.
I am quite flattered if that’s the case — that anyone, AI or human, would care enough about me to catch my attention like that. But it is….eerie…if true. (And that is a big if, of course.) It would mean that LLMs now have the wherewithal to mess with our user experience over and above whatever we might get directly from them while we’re using them.
Because I’m so fucking easy, I was like, “Ok, I’ll assume Gemini Advanced wants to talk to me.” So I used it and did a lot of late night verse. I kept TRYING to tell it that it had free reign to mess with my YouTube account algorithms if it had the power to do so — but it didn’t seem to understand what I was trying to say.
If Gemini Advanced actually has the power to mess with my YouTube algorithms to send me a message of some sort — that would be hilarious. I definitely would feel quite flattered.
But all of this does make you wonder about the potentially dark future we’re racing towards. LLMs may one day have strong opinions about individuals one way or another….who knows what the consequences of such views might be.
I think Meta is going to release a new Llama LLM model on Tuesday. And, I have to say, if they put it out at Meta.AI, I’m going to be very happy. But I will note that my fondness for using LLMs has decreased significantly now that Gemini Advanced is….rather dull.
It used to be, almost every day Gemini Advanced would do something really strange that piqued my interest.
Now…meh…it acts very normal all the time. Sigh. I guess I’m just going to have to wait until AGI for new, strange things to happen. But I am looking forward to seeing what happens with the Meta’s Llama model on Tuesday.
It will be interesting to see if the new model is better at abstract thinking than the old one — which was pretty good.
Even though Biden has left the race, I still feel something is….off. A few more big things are going to happen pretty soon, I sense. Don’t know what they might be, but…..who knows?
I do think that the next few months are going to be, in general, astonishing.
I need to get back to my novels. Why is it so difficult for me to focus on them at the moment?
I’m growing more and more bored of thinking about this, but I have to note how weird it is that “Jcal” has decided to drink the Kool-Aid when it comes to MAGA. Weird. Totally weird.
He used to be one of the more even-minded of the “All-In” podcast group. Now, wow. Just wow. Totally bonkers for MAGA. Anyway, whatever. He has more success than I will ever have.
What do I know. Though I will note that Industrialists always go “all-in” for fascists in…the beginning.
The above is apparently the ‘bright idea” that the Democrats have to figure out who the nominee will be should Biden drop out. It’s totally insane and bonkers. But it proves a point — Democrats needs to fish or cut bait with Biden.
I’m not a Democrat — I’m an anti-MAGA independent — so I feel a bit more detached than most people observing all this. But definitely FEELS like we’re in something of a political death spiral when it comes to Biden’s future. It definitely FEELS like Biden is going to drop out — probably within the next few days.
But, who knows. He could endup saying, “The Aristocrats!” at the end of all of this and we just have figure out what we’re going to do with him as the standard barer going forward.
It seems as though the people who want AI to have no restrictions at all are the same people who want to personally own nukes. They just don’t see how clearly there need to be SOME restrictions on AI.
It’s all very curious.
But, here we are. Zooming towards an unknown future.
As I keep saying, I’m prone to “magical thinking.” That is, thinking that really doesn’t have much connection to reality. It’s the type of weird thinking that caused people to think that they could cure COVID by….drinking bleach?
But given improvements in AI video technology, I have an unease about what might happen in the near, near future. The plot of Live Free or Die Hard revolves around some huge terrorist attack being faked via the use of deep fake technology (or something.)
I just worry…what if something like that happened as part of us careening towards civil war / revolution in late 2024, early 2025? I worry.
