I’ve finally settled on what’s going in this novel as we open, but there are some pretty logical obvious angles in the story that I have to be careful about. It’s way, way too easy for this to veer off into my own personal sex fantasy given what’s going on.
So, what I have to do is be really self conscious about it.
In large part, the problem is if I somehow miraculously managed to sell the spec novel, it would be easy for Twitter liberals to hear about it second hand and dunk on me pretty hard for thinking up a post-modern “Barbwire.” It doesn’t matter what my intent is, I really need to be aware of that.
So, I may have to address that issue in an indirect manner. Even though logically something would happen, I have to be a bit more indirect about it.
But after about four months of development I think I’ve reached the end of the beginning. Things should move significantly faster now because I have the backstory mythos of this little liberal fever dream down pat.
I’ve given myself 100 pages to do a scene summary. And I’ve given myself about 2 weeks to write that so I can, in turn, begin to write the first draft of the novel as of March 1.
We’ll see.
